We believe that not only helping at the school level is enough. We also support the finest students to achieve their dream. Sujana is studying PCL Nursing (Proficiency Certificate Level in Nursing).
Sujana and her family
Sujana Shrestha’s life began with a tragic twist; Sujana was just a baby when hardship struck her family. Her father, who was a shopkeeper, struggling to make ends meet, suddenly fell sick with a mental disorder. Then her mother could not raise and care for all of her family members alone. So, Sujana was taken by her aunty and taken care of until now.
Though her aunt’s family did their best to provide for her needs, Sujana Shrestha yearned for the warmth of motherly love. Sujana Shrestha’s aunty raised and supported her education during her childhood. They enrolled her in a local Government school; where she studied grade one to SEE level education.
As the years went by, One day, fate smiled upon Sujana. She was studying in PK school, a local Government school in her hometown. Her determination, coupled with her intelligence, caught the attention of the school principal and teachers. So, the school management team selected her for the scholarship of ICEF-Taiwan. Recognizing her potential, the Taiwanese INGO offered a scholarship for her school-level education.
When she completed her SEE level education no matter how but she wanted to be a nurse. Her hard work, poor financial conditions and talent in studies impressed her sponsors, teachers, and family members. Encouraged by their support and care, she began to pursue her career in the nursing sector. With the help of scholarships, she was able to attend a nursing college as well, where she has been studying her Diploma course for three years and honing her service skills.
As a nursing student, she has been posted in different hospitals and schools by her college. Sujana got many opportunities to sharpen her practical knowledge in hospitals and schools, such as Kanti Children Hospital in Kathmandu, Pashupati Chaulagain Hospital in Charikot, Maternal and Child Health Center in Kathmandu, Tilganganga Eye Hospital in Dolakha, and so on. Now she got much knowledge regarding child care, vaccination, counseling family, and School Health Programs. She feels delighted and enjoys serving her patients and students.
“As a nurse, I can serve many people. Beside the nursing duty of a hospital, I can also run an awareness program in school and give health care education in the community”.
When she becomes a professional nurse, she would like to make a mission to give back to society, particularly to children who need an opportunity to chase their dreams and be free from the cycle of poverty.
Sujana’s story is an inspiration to many other students, reminding them that despite the challenges in early childhood life, with hard work, patience, and the support of compassionate individuals, one can rise above the circumstances and create a meaningful life, just like a lotus blossom above the dirty mud.
And so, the once underprivileged child, Sujana, grew up and became a hope for her family members and others, proving that even the darkest of beginnings can be overcome with the power of education and with lovingkindness and compassion.
