Sujan Sakya

Needy students | Grade 9 | Kathmandu

“It would be so kind and helpful if you could help with my children’s education part. They want to continue their study and I can’t keep them quiet even though I have such a huge rock in front of me.”

— Sujan’s father, Mr. Babu Ram Shakya.

The whole family came from a village to a city to cure mother’s kidney

Sujan Shakya is a 17-year-old student. He is originally from the Dhading district of Nepal. Sujan’s mother, Asha Shakya is suffering from kidney failure. She needs to do dialysis twice a week. There is no hospital for Kidney patients in their remote village. It is too expensive and complicated to bring Sujan’s mother to Kathmandu twice a week. So, Sujan’s family had to move to Kathmandu for the sake of his mother’s regular treatment.  but his family moved to Kathmandu for the treatment of his mother. They have been staying in Kathmandu for 5 years.

Even struggling in life, great father never gave up on children’s education

Sujan’s has an elder sister. She is a college student too. She studies in grade 11. They both study in Government high school located in Kathmandu. Sujan and his sister Sunita Shakya also help their mother by taking her to the hospital and caring for her a home. Their father works as a laborer in Kathmandu. He neither gives up his wife’s treatment nor can he transplant her kidney. The cost of a kidney transplant is beyond his imagination, so he just takes his wife regularly to the hospital for dialysis so that she could live longer. Sujan’s father works five days a week and he arranges the rest two days for his wife. Besides his regular laboring job, he also asks for donations from people he knows. The family also got some help from their relatives. It is a heavy load for a father for raising his children and at the same time find the money for his wife. He is trying his best to arrange everything he can. So, the family needs support to cross their obstacles. ICEF and SCH have been supporting Sujan and his sister with their school tuition fee and monthly scholarship with food expense support since 2022.
