Sujan Karki

SCH students | Grade 8 | Ramechhap

Sujan Karki was born in 2008 to parents who had an inter-caste marriage. His father belonged to the Kshetri community, and his mother belonged to the Gurung tribe. Their relationship was more complicated from the beginning, and in 2014, Sujan’s mother left home and never returned.

Sujan’s father registered as a homeless person in Kathmandu and set up a small cottage on the bank of the Bagmati River. However, that cottage was destroyed and removed by the Kathmandu metropolitan in 2013, and Sujan’s father became homeless. In addition, he injured his hand in an accident and couldn’t work, so he asked SCH to raise Sujan.

SCH accepted Sujan and provided him with full sponsorship, including food, hostel, clothing, and school fees, with the help of ICEF-Taiwan. Sujan has been living in SCH since 2015, and he is happy and safe. He enjoys staying there because he has many friends and can study, play, and eat with them.

Sujan’s favorite activity is playing table tennis, and he even won the gold medal in the school championship. Despite the challenges, Sujan has found a home and supportive community in SCH, where he can thrive and pursue his passions.
