Shanti Sherpa

Needy Students | Grade 4 | Jiri

Shanti Sherpa is a ten-year-old student who lives in Khawa village, located in the Dolakha district of Nepal. She is a grade four student at Chhahare primary School in Jiri-7, Dolakha Nepal. Shanti was raised by her grandparents after her real mother divorced her father and remarried. Currently, she is living with her stepmother and younger brother. Shanti’s father went to Malaysia after marrying her stepmother, and the family took a home loan to rebuild their home that was damaged during the 2015 earthquake.

Shanti’s family has faced numerous hardships over the years. The family had no reliable income source in the village to pay off the home loan and take care of the children. Shanti’s father has a small piece of land that is only enough for planting some vegetables. He went abroad to pay off the loan and look for better opportunities to support the family. Meanwhile, Shanti’s stepmother took care of the home and children. Shanti had to take care of her younger brother when her stepmother went to work. Due to malnutrition and a lack of motherly love in her early years, Shanti appears weaker both physically and emotionally. However, Shanti was selected for the scholarship project of ICEF-Taiwan and receives support for her education.

Shanti and her family are grateful to the sponsors of the scholarship project of ICEF-Taiwan. The scholarship has provided Shanti with essential school supplies, snacks, and school uniforms, which have eased the family’s financial burden. The scholarship has also given Shanti an opportunity to receive an education, which will enable her to have a better future. Shanti’s family is aware of the expenses and efforts involved in her future education, but they are committed to providing her with the necessary support. They are thankful to the sponsors for helping Shanti achieve her dreams.
