The livelihood in the remote Himalayas is very difficult. Although they work for a whole year without enough rest they can’t harvest enough food for the family. This is why Rohit’s father needs to work as a laborer whenever he is free from farming. Rohit’s parents are always busy in the field and in the construction site. Rohit also has to take care of his younger brother at home during the school holidays. He takes his brother to school and comes back home together. They both study in the same school which is 10 minutes walk from his home. Rohit and his younger brother stay at the home and play together while their parents go to work.

She also works from dawn to dusk in the field. They have some area of land for cultivating crops. They live by herding some buffalos, goats, and chickens at home.
Raring domestic animals in the home is necessary for the farmer. By raring domestic animals the family can make cash money as well as fertilizer for the use of harvesting crops in the field. By selling the chicken and goats, Rohit’s father buys necessary items for the home. The family usually needs to sell their livestock during the festivals for buying new clothes and delicious foods.
