SCH & Needy students | Grade 7 | Tembathang
Nima Yangji Sherpa, a 13-year-old student from Tembathang village in Nepal. She has four sisters, one older and three younger than her. Currently, she is in the seventh grade and attends Holy Angel Public School in Kathmandu. Since 2015, she has been living in SCH with the help of a sponsor, without whom her family would struggle to afford her education and secure a better future for her.
Nima Yangji Sherpa comes from a family of seven, including five daughters. Her parents work hard, with her father laboring in the mountains and her mother farming in the village. However, making a living as a farmer in the remote Himalayas is tough, and even working all year round doesn’t provide enough food for the family. To make ends meet, they must collect herbal medicine, work as porters, and take on construction jobs. With their limited income, it’s a struggle for Nima Yangji’s parents to raise their five children, let alone provide them with a good education and a better life. Without a sponsor’s support, Nima Yangji wouldn’t have had the opportunity to attend school and have a brighter future.
In 2015, Nepal was hit by a devastating earthquake that made life even more challenging for Nima Yangji Sherpa’s family. To protect her from the landslides caused by aftershocks, her father brought her to Kathmandu. Fortunately, she was accepted into ICEF-Taiwan’s sponsorship project, and in August 2015, she arrived at Sherpa Children Home where she was cared for by the SCH team.
Moreoever, Nima Yangji enjoys dancing, singing, and playing with her friends. Her dream is to become a teacher in the future.
