Lakpa Sherpa Salaka

SCH students | Grade 11 | Sindupalchowk

“My grandfather is like my father. He raised me. Now he is too old and cannot work on the farm. So, I will study hard and take of him as he took care of me.”  -Lakpa Sherpa Salaka

Lakpa Sherpa was born in the remote village of Sindupalchowk, called Tembathang. There are still no roads, or electricity in that village.  Lack of job and earnings, and remote places lead his family to India, in search of a better life, but the challenges didn’t end there. He was just a young boy when his life took a tragic turn. The loss of his father in a car accident left him and his family struggling to navigate life on their own. Upon returning to their village in Sindupalchowk, Lakpa’s mother remarried, and he found himself living with his grandfather while his elder sister lived with their mother.

However, life took another difficult turn when the earthquake hit Nepal in 2015. In the aftermath of the disaster, many children were left without homes or families to care for them. Lakpa was among those rescued and brought to the Kathmandu by Nepal Army. Sherpa Children Home opens its place for those children including Lakpa Sherpa and provides shelter, love, care, and a place where they can build their life and career.
