“Due to my poor economic background, I could not pursue my dreams. But one day, I met someone who lightened up my dreams. Now I’m also part of this social work organization, I would love to do my best to help the needy people together.” – Kabita Sherpa

Trolley seller girl having university dream
On the day of Kabita Shrestha’s high school graduation, her mother gave her a trolley with slippers and toys. She went to sell at two o’clock in the afternoon every day, one kilometer away from home, and come back at six after dark.

When she asked her parents about college, they were silent. She knew then that although she wanted to study, it wasn’t possible now, so she had to work harder to get a chance at university. Every day, she helped at the family’s snack shop, did tutoring, and went to sell goods. She can earn about 1,000 to 1,500 rupees a day from selling. After an evaluation, SCH and ICEF decided to support her tuition and she was very happy.

Big ambition: College Study, take care of family, Social work
During the epidemic, she took classes online but still needed to help her family work, as well as take care of her mentally ill father and a young brother. We discussed this with the sponsors and decided to support her
monthly living expenses in addition to the tuition fee so that she can study without worries.

Kabita has a plan for the future, actively collects course materials, and plans for herself a double major: CA Diploma (Chartered Accountant), and BBS (Bachelor in Business Studies). She mentioned that she would like to join social work in the future to help needy people. She is now studying for the 2nd academic year and has become a member of the second board of directors of SCH. Even though she is very busy, when she heard that she was invited to become the new board, her face was full of surprises:

I was super excited. It was my dream to be part of social work, but I wasn’t able to do it as I was inexperienced and have to help my family with financial needs. After getting this chance, I would love to do my best to give something in the best, the possible way there are a lot of people like me who cannot afford good food, good education, and good life. Through SCH we can bring happiness to many people’s lives with the proper management and many kind sponsors’ support. I think we can make it much more effective. I’m not experienced now, but as time goes by, I hope I learn a lot of new things and could be useful.”

It is not easy for a girl to be educated and have great ambitions, if she is in a traditional cultural society background, especially when the circumstances are not enough to support her dreams, it is even more
difficult and rare!

Sincerely wish her a successful completion of her studies, actualizing her dreams, and inspiring more girls!

Kabita says:

“I am an average person having big dreams in my life. But due to my poor economic background, I could not pursue my dreams. But one day I met someone who lightened up my dreams. I met the SCH chairperson who helped me to chase my dreams with the aid of ICEF. I’ve never had any hope that I would be able to become what I’ve always wanted. Thanks to my sponsors I was able to join charted accountancy course.”

It was an amazing experience. On the First day of college, I was pretty nervous but I met some good friends and they helped me a lot to cope there. Our teachers and management department are also excellent. I’ve learned a lot of things there. New topics new ideas and new knowledge filled our days
with excitement and enjoyment.
But during this period a lot of things happened in my family. My mom got sick. She had severe back pain as a result she could not move her hands and couldn’t do normal work. My father also got his leg swollen so he could not walk properly. He has had to be in bed all the time. My grandfather also passed away some months ago. So, it was a tough time for us. It was hard to manage all the things at the same time. Both of my parents are getting treatment and there are good changes in their health.

After joining CA, I came to know time management consistency and hard work are very important. If de won’t manage these things properly we shall be ready to face the consequences. Thanks to all the helping hands I was able to continue my journey and keep up with my pace.

Now I’m also part of this organization. It would be great if I could help this amazing organization in any possible way.

Thank you for all of your support and help. I could never have it done without you. You made my life a lot easier through this difficult time and I couldn’t be more thankful for it. I want to express my sincere thanks to all who were involved in getting this beautiful opportunity to me.

Thank you so much for your generous love care and support. Thank you very much.
