“I nearly stop dreaming about my further education in this life. I am so lucky that now I am in SCH. I have got a great opportunity to fulfill my dream once again.” –Lhundup Sherpa
Introduction
Lhundup Sherpa was born on 5th Nov 2005 at Thembathang village of Sindhupalchok district. It is located in a remote area of northern Nepal. He is the 2nd member of his family. There are five family members including his parents, one elder sister, and a younger brother.
Hardship life in the remote mountain
Her parents are yak herders. They have a Yak farm in the remote mountain. He was born in mountains and grew up on a Yak farm. From a young age, he used to help his parents such as going after yaks and goats, fetching water and collecting firewood, etc. His father and mother usually live on the yak farm around the high mountain. Besides the yak farm, the family also has a small land field in the village where they cultivate some crops and grow some vegetables.
The difficulty of school education for children in the Himalayan region
Lhundup was not able to go to school at a young age that is because his parents rarely live in the village. They sent him to a Buddhist monastery after the Nepal earthquake in 2015. Lhundup stayed in a monastery for a few years but he went back to the village again because there was no school education in the monastery. He passed his primary level of school education in the village however he couldn’t continue his school because there was no school for grades six and above. Therefore, he had to stay with his parents on the mountain as a yak herder. While staying on Yak farm he used to go after the yaks and goats. He had to walk 5 to 6hrs to reach the village and the same way back to the yak farm carrying a heavy load of food on his back. As a son of a Yak farmer, he didn’t have any other choice but needed to take it a daily routine.
The lives of the children in the mountain are full of risk every day but they have to face it no matter what, just dreaming of a better future with the hope of sunshine one day.
Lhundup Sherpa likes general knowledge and English subject the most. He is a very intelligent and smart boy in SCH. He likes to be a pilot in the future.
Thank you.
